We are forming an emergency response team to help warn and support the roughly 283 people living unhoused along the San Diego River prior to severe flooding events! We are looking for volunteers to join our staff and volunteer leaders in guided hikes along the river on Wednesday to ensure people are aware of the flooding that is forecasted on Thursday.
These hikes involve:
- Walking on uneven paths
- Potentially bushwhacking (stooping and bending, cutting through vegetation, etc.) off trail and through muddy terrain
- Handing out supply kits to those in need
If you are interested, please put in the notes section of your Sign-Up which one of these 3 options you are able to do:
- Hike 1-3 miles on unpaved paths
- Hike 1-3 miles on narrow, uneven trails
- Hike 1-5 miles off trail with potential bushwhacking
And where you are most interested in volunteering along the river:
- Ocean Beach River Mouth / Estuary
- Mission Valley
- Grantville
- Santee
If you are looking for an alternative way to help, we need volunteers to help post flyers at trailheads and kiosks, as well as a care package packing event tomorrow (1/31) at our office.
- Posting Flyers
- Help Package Supply Kits
We thank you for your dedication in supporting the San Diego River and surrounding community. Please reach out with any questions, comments, or ideas! Please be mindful of the rain coming up and stay safe out there!
