These Headwaters Assessments are an annual survey in which volunteers go out to explore the headwaters of the San Diego River as well as collect data for our organization and other land managers. This year we are focusing our efforts on documenting the Southwestern pond turtle (Actinemys pallida), an endemic freshwater turtle in central/southern California.
During this virtual event, we will cover the basic protocols and procedures for our annual Headwaters Assessment. Volunteers will learn how to observe and record threatened and endangered species, hydromodifications, non-native invasive species, and more. We will also cover the segment locations which we will be surveying in the headwaters. In addition, we will go over basic safety and ways to limit your impact while hiking these pristine areas. The virtual training session will be an hour from 5:30pm to 6:30pm on Thursday April 13th. We hope to see you there!
