Join the San Diego River Park Foundation for a sunset hike to the top of Horizon Rock Trail at Eagle Peak Ranch. From the summit, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of Wynola Valley and the surrounding San Diego mountains, and other scenic peaks and views.
Please bring a headlamp or flashlight and plenty of drinking water for the hike. We also recommend closed-toed shoes and long pants. This hike is a 1-mile round trip with a total elevation gain of 344 feet from the parking lot making it 'easy to moderate.' However, it should not be undertaken by individuals who are not comfortable on uneven trail surfaces or hiking uphill. For safety reasons, no pets are allowed at this event.
Please note: This event is located in the heart of a wilderness area. For your safety, stay close to our experienced staff and volunteers throughout the event. Potential hazards include rattlesnakes, mountain lions, poison oak, and loose footing.
What is Eagle Peak Ranch?
Imagine a lost valley with deer running through it—a place with abundant wildlife and room for people to explore. This is Eagle Peak Ranch, a oasis just a few miles from Pine Hills and Julian. A few year-round springs feed a stream that ultimately builds until it drops into the incredible Upper San Diego River Gorge. More than a century of cattle grazing has left its imprint on the valley, including a large pond and several seasonal ones. Eagle Peak Ranch encompasses a wonderful valley that includes Temescal Creek.
