Hike with a Purpose: El Cajon Mountain Hike from El Monte Rd - Wednesday, 4/3/24

Calendar Happens On Apr 3, 2024
Time 8am - 4pm
Expired

Description

Join the San Diego River Park Foundation for a hike to the top of one of San Diego's highest peaks! Did you know that the San Diego River Park Foundation owns and manages hundreds of acres of land on top of El Cajon Mountain? During this challenging and often demanding hike, we will hike to and traverse our property and conduct a photo monitoring rare plant assessment for Lakeside ceanothus (Ceanothus cyaneus), an endemic rare plant found only in Southern California.

Please bring a bag lunch or snacks and plenty of water; we recommend 3-4 liters. This hike is not for the faint-hearted and is rated 'hard' on AllTrails. The trail is roughly 5.4 miles out and back, with an elevation gain of more than 2,240 feet (this is very steep and uphill the entire way). For more information about the hike, follow THIS LINK to the AllTrails website.

This event is one of two hikes on Wednesday, April 3rd, that departs from the El Monte Road taking the South Ridge Trail, while the other hike starts at Wildcat Canyon Road, following the main county trail.

Please note: The meeting address is 1 mile further down El Monte Road than the nearest available address listed here.
