Contribute to science and California's Biodiversity Day! This annual event celebrates the exceptional biodiversity of our state while also encouraging actions to protect it. We will be walking around Ocean Beach and the San Diego River Estuary, documenting the area's flora and fauna. We also encourage individuals to gather observations on iNaturalist throughout California's Biodiversity Week in any publicly accessible areas of the SD Watershed, not exclusively during this OB event.
Learn how to collect essential species information using your smartphone. We are excited to have you explore nature with us while simultaneously contributing to science. Together, we will document plants and animals using iNaturalist on our smartphones. We look forward to your presence at the event!
Here are a few tips to help you prepare for the event:

- Before leaving home, kindly download the iNaturalist app on your phone.
- Familiarize yourself with our iNaturalist tutorial on YouTube: "Become a Citizen Scientist! How To Use iNaturalist."
- After downloading the app, join our iNaturalist project: San Diego River Park Foundation California Biodiversity Week 2023

- Consider wearing protective clothing, such as a hat and sunscreen, to shield yourself from the sun. These are recommended for all our outdoor events.
- We suggest opting for sturdy tennis or hiking shoes.
- To minimize single-use plastics, we encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle with water.
- Please arrive by 7:45 am for check-in. You'll find us near the small grassy area between the parking lot, the San Diego River Bikeway, and Ocean Villa Inn.
