Looking for a volunteer opportunity that allows you to support a healthy river while interacting with a group of like-minded people? Every Wednesday and Saturday our River Rescue team looks so do just that! This dedicated group of volunteers traverses through different areas of the San Diego River to help remove trash and debris that can accumulate fast. Clean-up locations can be anywhere from Ocean Beach in San Diego to Walker Preserve in Santee.
An estimated 1 million pounds of trash enters the San Diego Riverbed annually, and our River Rescue team works diligently to remove an average of 2,000 pounds out of the riverbed at every clean-up!
At these events volunteers should expect to get dirty, physically exert themselves, occasionally trek through treacherous terrain, and meet an amazing group of people!
These public River Rescue Dates are catered to newer volunteers, and you will have companions to help you along the way to learn the ropes. Can't make the first Wednesday or last Saturday of the month? That's OK! New volunteers are always welcomed, but please email us at volunteer@sandiegoriver.org if you plan to join on any other event day.
