Looking for a regular volunteer opportunity that allows you to experience the great outdoors while giving back? Then the River Assessment Field Team (R.A.F.T.) is for you! On Tuesdays and Fridays, the team will walk different segments of the San Diego River in the Mission Valley area to identify issues affecting our River, such as trash, storm water debris and illegal dumping. Your reconnaissance of these areas will allow us to effectively plan our cleanup events so that we are having a greater impact on the River’s health with the highest level of efficiency.
At these events volunteers should expect to get dirty, physically exert themselves, occasionally trek through treacherous terrain, and meet an amazing group of people! The team will work in areas of varying levels of difficulty, ranging from paved trails to trail blazing adventures. You are invited to attend any and all, depending on your ability level.
These public R.A.F.T. dates are catered to newer volunteers, and you will have companions to help you along the way to learn the ropes. Can't make the first Tuesday of the month? That's OK! New volunteers are always welcomed, but please email us at volunteer@sandiegoriver.org if you plan to join on any other event day.
If you haven’t yet, please complete our Virtual Mappler Training prior to your first day in the field, which you can find here. Please watch in Presentation Mode.
