Yikes!
The recent storms have deposited a lot of trash and litter in the San Diego River. After storms, narrower parts of the riverbed get choked with styrofoam, wrappers, bottles and other litter. As the water goes down, the lands along the river are a mess!
We have set a goal to clean the entire area of the riverbed between Fashion Valley Road and Highway 163. We have a limited time to remove this trash before it is washed away by the next storm, leaches chemicals and pollution, eaten by wildlife or worse.
Volunteers are needed to join our Clean & Green Team for a large community clean-up on Saturday, February 24. We are organizing 2 shifts so we can complete all the litter removal in one day! This listing is for the afternoon shift. To sign up for the morning shift, click here.
Location: Fashion Valley Mall
Park + Meet: Park in empty spots just south of Tesla Parking Station at Fashion Valley Mall, located at 7007 Friars Rd, San Diego, CA 92108. Tesla stations are southeast of the Bloomingdales Parking Lot, or can be found using the links below.

Here are a few tips to help you prepare for the event:
- Please arrive at 12:45am to get checked in on time and allow time for parking.
- Be sure to dress in clothes that can get a little dirty - long pants are strongly encouraged. A hat, sunscreen, or any other types of sun protection are also recommended for all of our outdoor events.
- Closed toe shoes are required. No sandals, Tom's or other flats. You must wear sturdy tennis or hiking shoes.
- In order to reduce single-use plastics, we encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle with water to drink.
- We will provide all tools and supplies for you to use.
- Community Service hours can be verified for those who need them.
- For safety reasons, no pets are allowed at this event.
- There are no restroom facilities at this location. Please plan accordingly.
