Join us to help restore the San Diego River through our habitat restoration program, where we remove invasive plants, plant native species, and engage in other aspects of habitat restoration. Our Invasive Management, Plant Assessment, and Conservation (I.M.P.A.C.T.) Team consists of volunteers dedicated to restoring the San Diego River watershed to its natural state. We invite you to join us in our efforts to remove non-native invasive species from the lower San Diego watershed, adjacent to Fashion Valley Mall. Together, we will work as a team to eradicate invasive plants such as wild radish, black mustard, crown daisy, and more. Additionally, we may also focus on our restoration area by watering and planting native vegetation. As we always say, "Many hands make light work!"
What to Expect: Many of these invasive plant species are small annuals that require either weed whacking or hand pulling, so be prepared to get dirty. Please wear a hat and sunscreen, along with long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy closed-toed shoes for protection. All necessary tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own gloves or safety glasses if preferred. Don't forget to bring plenty of drinking water and snacks to stay energized throughout the day.
Who Would Be Perfect for the Team: Our I.M.P.A.C.T. Team welcomes individuals from all walks of life. Retired folks can use their time and experience to contribute to the environment, while students seeking hands-on experience in habitat restoration can gain valuable knowledge and skills. Families are also encouraged to participate, as our activities are a great way to bond and instill a sense of stewardship for the natural world in children. If you are passionate about making a difference and want to help restore the San Diego River, you would be an ideal fit for our team.
Please note: The meeting location is NEAR the address listed. The exact meeting location will be at the Fashion Valley Mall Tesla Charging Station near Bloomingdales.
