Description

Please join the San Diego River Park Foundation for an evening adventure to listen and look for bats as we walk along Peutz Creek. We will learn about bats and monitor their echolocation calls using bioacoustics. We will also set up a UV light to attract and observe moths. All ages welcome! The event will take place at Peutz Creek Preserve near Alpine. This is approximately 40 minutes drive from San Diego.

Please bring a flashlight or headlamp, water, a camp chair for the later mothing portion, and wear long pants and close-toed shoes. Bug repellant recommended.

Check out this news article by KPBS: Bat Season has begun in San Diego, where Natalie Borchardt and Don Endicott talk about the importance of bats for San Diego county.

Here are a few tips to help you prepare for the event:

  • Check-In: 6:45 PM, meet at the open parking area near the fruit trees
  • Attire: Long pants and closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended
  • Other Items to Bring: Reusable water bottle, light clothing layer
  • Weather: Light rain will not cancel the event
  • For safety reasons, no pets are allowed at this event
  • There are no restroom facilities at this location
  • Family friendly!
  • Please note: You will lose cell service once you leave I-8 freeway onto Peutz Valley Road. The address to meet and park is a residence: 966 Peutz Valley Road.
