As part of the California Clean Air Day, we would like to invite you to a Sunset Seed Soirée in Ocean Beach. The sun will set over the Pacific Ocean at 6:28pm, so this event will give us a chance to plant some native seeds to germinate them in our own gardens, all while awaiting the “Green Flash.” This meteorological phenomenon only happens when conditions are right and the air is clean! Clean, stabile air allows more of the refracted light from the setting sun to reach the observer without being scattered, thus a “green glow” temporarily appears on the horizon.
As we all learned in school, the oxygen we breath comes from plants. But that is only half the story. As young students, we were told that terrestrial plants, rainforests, and trees create the oxygen we breath, but more than 50% of that oxygen actually comes from plants in the ocean.
Join us where the San Diego River meets the Pacific Ocean and let’s do our part in planting some native plants that will be good for our pollinators as well as our pollution levels. Take a deep breath and relax! We can help our environment by sowing the seeds of change – all for the good of the planet.
Take the Clean Air Day Pledge with us!
*Note: Even though it says "Volunteer", a sign-up just means you are attending - not volunteering.
